In this article we’re going to talk about plumbing marketing tips from a plumbing company owner, and we’re going to talk about it right now.
So guys, plumbing marketing tips. Now, that’s something that means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Does that mean you send a lot of money to Google? Does that mean you send a lot of money to Facebook for Facebook ads? Let me tell you how I started out. I literally started out networking with different groups. Now some of you have heard my story. My wife is a networker and she gets out and networks with people and talks about her business. Me, I’m a plumber. I never saw any point in that. But she talked me into going to an event one night and let me tell you what, networking works. I walked into an event and I found out that people wanted to talk about their plumbing problems. The neat thing about it was I have the answers. I understand plumbing and especially professional leak detection services in Cape Town and I was able to talk to them and explain it to them to help them understand what their issues were and possibly who the right person would be to call to fix those issues for them.
Networking is really good because when you first start out your company, you’ve got plenty of time but you don’t have plenty of money. A lot of networking is free. Now, since then, I’ve joined Master Networks, which is a group that’s done really well for me and has been very good. It’s not free, but it’s not very expensive. The neat thing about it, I don’t just learn networking and I don’t just get to go networking, but they’re set up where they actually teach people like me how to run a business. And that is really good because as a technician and a really good plumber, running a plumbing company was something I really didn’t know a whole lot about.
Then came social media. After that I decided, look, I want to grow on social media. As much as getting out and networking is great and learning how to network and talk to people, social media is great because that allowed me to amplify my reach. Meaning I could do videos and put them out on Facebook or YouTube, hello YouTube, or LinkedIn and other places, and actually get out, talk about plumbing. I’m not doing ads and I’m not out just trying to sell my services, I am actually trying to teach people about their plumbing system and things they may need to know to help them know what their plumbing system is all about and things they might can do themselves to save money.
So the video content for social media is a big thing to learn. You can start off with just a smart phone and maybe a cheap level air mic. You can move up to a really nice camera, nice lighting, a great microphone and things like that, but start out with what you can. What you want to do, you want to get your information out to the people that are around you that may use you. So Facebook is wonderful. YouTube is wonderful. Maybe even LinkedIn. Twitter, Pinterest, where all can you put information out? Now, you can’t put video out everywhere, but maybe you can get information out to let people know that you’re the authority in your area and you understand what you’re talking about. First of all, make sure you understand what you’re talking about.
The cool thing about video is when you get really good at it and people start listening to you and spending time searching your information out and listening to you, they will take you on rides in the car with them. They’ll take you jogging. They’ll take you working out. They will literally tell other people about the information that you’re sharing and you become a trusted advisor to them. Guys there is nothing better. You become the person that if they have a plumbing issue, you’re the one that they think of first and you’re the one they want to talk to.
SEO, search engine optimization. Guys, it is something you need to know about. Now, I’m not saying you got to learn it, I’m not saying you got to get good at it, but you need to know enough about it that when you talk to the right marketing person, they understand that you know what you’re talking about and you know to ask them the right questions. How do they do it? Is it SEO or is it Guess-EO? Because with some people it’s strictly a guess, they’re not doing things right. So the one thing that I will tell you there, make sure that you know enough about it so that when you talk about it to a marketing company, they understand you’re knowledgeable, you know what they’re talking about, and you know what to look for. Ask them how they’re going to prove to you what they’re doing. Do they have anything set up to where they can show you numbers to let you know how you’re improving, where you’re improving and what it is they’re doing to make you improve.
Social media, marketing, video, this is all new to a lot of us and that’s why this is something I felt like I had to learn. I feel like I’ve learned it better than most. I’ll tell you this, I think I’ve learned it better than most of the marketing companies around here and that’s why I want to tell y’all about what we do. Networking, social media, and video is the cheapest way to get out and market your company and not just send money to somebody that as soon as you quit, they turn it off. Everything that we’re doing here is evergreen and it stays out to where people are always seeing it.
